The 2025 University of Virginia Summer Language Institute’s Latin program will be held in person this summer on the Charlottesville, VA main campus from June 16th-August 8th!
-The program is intensive and immersive, covering the first two years of college-level Latin in eight weeks: Beginning through Intermediate. At UVA, this material is covered in the regular-term courses 1010, 1020, 2010, and 2020 (summer term courses 1016, 1026, 2016 and 2026).
– The program is open to college undergraduates, rising senior and junior high school students, graduate students, professionals, and any adult interested in achieving rapid progress in Latin or strengthening their Latin.
-The first half of the program will instruct students in Latin grammar and vocabulary using Wheelock’s Latin. In the second half, students will read famous authors such as Cicero, Ovid, and Vergil in the original Latin.
– Although students are strongly encouraged to enroll for the entire program, the option to apply only to the first or the second half is also available to qualified students.
-The full program will prepare you to read Latin on your own with the aid of a dictionary and commentary, and to succeed in advanced courses in Latin.
